Meet Stephanie

Stephanie Hollist is a lifelong Utahn, an attorney, and a problem-solver who believes Utah’s government should work for the people it serves — not for entrenched power.

Stephanie has lived in Davis County for more than 35 years. She and her husband have raised their four children here, all of whom attend schools in the Davis County School District. Her husband works at Davis High School, giving their family a deep, firsthand connection to Utah’s public education system and to the everyday challenges facing local families. She is a community-minded leader with deep roots in Utah’s civic and educational institutions.

Personal Note:

As your state senator, I will focus on being the voice of our community. I will stand up for our rights – our right to question and challenge government when it fails to act as it should, and our right to a system of checks and balances carefully designed by our founders.
Government must be limited to the scope of its role and accountable to avoid government overreach and corruption.

So many people I meet are concerned about our future. We’re concerned that our state’s values are being pushed aside, eroded, or corrupted. I understand that concern, because I feel it too. I am a parent. I live here. I care deeply about what kind of future we are leaving to our children and our community.

We are seeing just one example of this right now with big development proposals that have the potential to significantly impact our resources – and our lake. Moving things like this forward without listening to these concerns – or not even acknowledging them in the first place – leads to serious questions about who our government is serving.

I also meet a lot of people who are ready to step up. We’re not giving up. We know it’s possible. This is why I’m willing to say what needs to be said to those who need to hear it, and why I’m not afraid to do what must be done. But I can’t do it alone.

Together, we are protecting our future – and that makes the work worth it. It’s time. Time for hope, for commitment, and for standing up for what is right. We can do this. Join me.

A Career Built on Understanding the Law — and Its Consequences

For the past 20 years, Stephanie has worked as an attorney for state and city government, involved firsthand in understanding how decisions made at the Legislature ripple through public institutions and into people’s lives. Today, she serves as Vice President and General Counsel for a heavy machinery company based in Salt Lake City, advising on complex legal, regulatory, and operational issues that directly affect Utah’s economy and workforce.

One of the things that sets her apart is Stephanie’s rare and practical understanding of how laws are written, how power is exercised, and where the system breaks down. No other candidate has seen firsthand both sides of creation and implementation.

She has watched the legislative leadership navigate — and often avoid — Utah’s toughest challenges. As a lawyer, she understands not only what the law says, but how it can be written better, and used to actually solve problems instead of creating new ones.

Stephanie’s career reflects a commitment to service, thoughtful leadership, and collaborative problem-solving. She has been a steady voice in training leaders on ethics, conflict of interest, open governance, and accountability.

I get people, I get the constitution, and I care.

Why She's Running - Trust

Stephanie is running for the Utah State Senate because Utah is stuck — and the current leadership isn’t fixing what matters most. She is challenging the district’s long-serving incumbent because after two decades in the legislature, many of the district’s core challenges remain unaddressed and the current leadership is disconnected with the real needs of the community.

Too often, instead of meeting Utahns where they are and finding honest solutions, what we have seen is that when Utahns speak up, leadership doubles down instead of listening.

Stephanie believes Utah deserves better.

“When leaders hold immense power, the standard should be higher, not lower. Transparency protects institutions and the people who lead them.”

– Stephanie Hollist

She is running to bring reason, transparency, and accountability back to the Legislature — and to ensure that government once again reflects real Utah values: responsibility, hard work, self-reliance, community, and opportunity.

Stephanie is committed to regaining the public’s trust and faith in government.

Stephanie believes that sound policy starts with listening — to neighbors, families, educators, small business owners, and civic partners — and that solutions should reflect Utah’s shared values of service and opportunity.

“People need to know that their government is listening, that their concerns matter, and that decisions are being made openly and responsibly. I’m running to help rebuild that trust and strengthen the relationship between this community and its government.”

A Focus on Families, the Economy, and Utah’s Future

As your state senator, Stephanie will focus on:

Building Trust

Building trust by listening to the people and eliminating the barriers that prevent transparent and effective governance. Leadership should listen, disclose, and deliver results. Power should never replace accountability. Utah deserves better process—because better process produces better outcomes. When people feel shut out of decisions that affect their livelihoods, government loses legitimacy. This is a fundamental lesson I’ve learned in my career, I’ve seen that when people are invited in early, use data, and understand the legal framework, trust grows and policy works better. That is how I lead by opening the process and building solutions people can believe in.

Good Government

Good government is achieved by recognizing the role of government and its leaders. This includes creating more transparency in bills being passed, term limits, and leaders who do not overreach.

Helping Working Utahns Provide for Their Families

Helping working Utahns provide for their families by supporting a strong economy, attainable housing, a healthy job market, and access to effective educational opportunities. Housing should be attainable for the people who make our communities work - families, first-time home owners, and working people, like first responders, nurses, and teachers. There is not one solution to the housing affordability problem, but the role of state government should be to support cities in decision-making and help them find resources, independent data, and solutions to deliver results that benefit our community.

Supporting Utah's Youth

Supporting Utah’s youth as they become the next generation of Utah leaders, by strengthening the partnership between parents, teachers, and our communities. That means making sure families and educators have the resources they need to help kids become resilient, capable, and confident. It also means creating meaningful opportunities for students to build real-world skills that prepare them to be successful in an evolving economy and connect to Utah’s workforce. I believe the best solutions come from local decision-making, with parents at the table and educators’ expertise guiding the way. By creating real avenues for parent-teacher collaboration and providing practical tools for success, we can ensure teachers feel supported and valued, and parents have the final say in their child’s education. When educators are respected and empowered, students thrive and our entire community is stronger for it.

A Personal Commitment

Stephanie Hollist is running to bring people together, speak honestly, and do the hard work of solving problems — not ignoring them.

Opposition has shared many falsehoods in this race. Some of the many questions Stephanie gets asked:

Q. Can you tell us about your Republican values?

A. Stephanie is a traditional Republican and has been her whole life. She believes in the Constitution, in integrity, limited government, transparency, and accountability. Those are fundamental basics we need to restore to our legislature, which is her focus. Stephanie is very pragmatic and focused on things that are impacting us every day – fiscal conservatism, lower taxes, limited government, and local government. Stephanie believes we have to start with real change in how our government is operating.

A. No. An institution she served enforced an anti-DEI law under shifting legislative pressure. Stephanie always advised correctly in following the law, respecting constitutional rights, and treating people fairly. Stephanie is not a liberal DEI attorney.

A. No. My opponents stretch to come to this idea is explained here:

A. Stephanie’s biggest donor is her father, a 40-year resident of our district. He believes in what Stephanie is fighting for and decided to help because he wants better government for his community. It’s family supporting family – not special interests supporting politicians. The rest of Stephanie’s donations come from individuals, nearly all from people in Utah, most from people in our district. Her only two out of state donations are from my aunt and an old friend. Stephanie has never taken funding from lobbyists or PACs, in state or out-of-state. There’s no comparison to the incumbent, who has received in the million dollar range from PACs and corporations.

You can find all disclosures – for both Stephanie and her opponent, here:

A: Take a look at this race. Stephanie is running hard and giving it her all. She’s doing this so your voice can be heard. She’s doing this for her kids and your kids. We believe in government by the people, of the people and for the people. Stephanie will fight for you.
